    Lyre-leaved Sage gets its name from the highly variable, but generally lyre-shaped leaves. Evergreen leaves are mostly basal, and have strong purple veining in the cooler months and especially when planted in sunnier conditions. Blue flowers are produced in mid-spring on a 1' flowering stalk. Flowers open slowly over several weeks. This sage is highly adaptable and can grow in most garden conditions. Best flowering and growth will occur in part sun with average soil conditions. Because of its low stature, evergreen nature, fast growth, and ability to be mowed repeatedly, Lyre-leaved Sage makes an excellent lawn replacement. It also functions well as a ground cover or filler plant. Plants are short-lived but will re-seed in abundance.
