    Yellow Passionflower  (Passiflora lutea)
    Passionflower Family

Yellow Passionflower is a native perennial vine found throughout the southeastern and central United States. It features deeply lobed, dark green leaves often mottled with lighter markings, and produces small, intricate greenish-yellow flowers from late spring through early fall. Although modest in size, around 1 inch, its blooms exhibit the symmetry and floral structure characteristic of passionflowers. The vine bears round fruits about ½ inch in diameter that ripen from green to deep purple or nearly black. While not commonly eaten by humans, the fruit provides a food source for birds and small mammals. Thanks to its extended blooming season, flowers and fruit often appear on the plant simultaneously. Yellow Passionflower thrives in partial shade and is commonly found in woodlands, thickets, and along streambanks. For increased flowering, it can be sited in areas receiving 4–6 hours of morning sun. Unlike the more vigorous Passiflora incarnata, this species is less aggressive, making it a suitable choice for home gardens.
