Product Info
Greater Fringed Gentian (Gentianopsis crinita)
Gentian FamilyThis biennial gentian is best suited to full sun and moist soils, though it prefers some shade in more southerly climates. In early to mid-fall, it produces vivid blue flowers with finely fringed petals. As a biennial, plants forma basal rosette in the first year and flower in the second before setting seed and dying. Seed capsules develop after bloom and split to release numerous small seeds, allowing for natural reseeding in suitable conditions. In the south, this species will benefit from afternoon shade and particularly moist soils. Prolonged summer heat and drought can reduce vigor.
