Product Info
Boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum)
Aster FamilyBoneset is a clump-forming perennial native to wet meadows, streambanks, and low woodlands throughout eastern North America. It typically grows 3–4 feet tall, with upright stems and distinctive perfoliate leaves (opposite leaf pairs that are joined at the base and appear pierced by the stem). In late summer to early fall, it produces clusters of white, nectar-rich flowers that are highly attractive to a wide diversity of pollinators. This species thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers moist to wet soils, though it can tolerate average garden moisture if not allowed to dry out completely. It may spread modestly by seed and rhizome, especially in consistently moist soils. Ecologically, it is a high value plant for native bees, butterflies, moths, and beneficial wasps. It also serves as a host plant for several species of moths and butterflies. Companion plants include New York Ironweed, Red Cardinal Flower, White Turtlehead, Meadow Beauty, and Virginia Iris.
