Product Info
White Rose Mallow (Muenchhusia coccinea 'alba')
Mallow FamilyWhite Rose Mallow is a striking hibiscus that can reach 8 feet tall. In late summer, it produces large, brilliant red flowers up to 6 inches across. Each flower lasts only a day, but new blooms open continuously for more than a month, followed by attractive seed capsules that provide fall interest. White Rose Mallow supports a wide range of wildlife. It is a host plant for numerous butterfly and moth species, provides pollen for a specialized bee, and its dead stems can be used by stem-nesting bees. It is naturally associated with swamps, marshes, and other wet habitats. In cultivation, it is an excellent choice for rain gardens, pond margins, and other consistently moist areas. It performs best in full sun and makes a dramatic specimen or backdrop in the garden. Pair it with other moisture-loving natives such as Narrowleaf Sunflower and Great Blue Lobelia for a colorful late-summer display.
