    Big-leaved Aster is a distinctive woodland perennial known for its large, heart-shaped basal leaves that can reach up to 8 inches long and 6” wide. These striking leaves are densely arranged close to the ground, creating an attractive groundcover that stands out in shaded landscapes. As the plant begins to flower in late summer to early fall, the foliage may shrink back slightly, giving way to its small white to pale purple flowers. Because the flowers are not particularly showy, the true appeal of this aster lies in its bold foliage, making it a fantastic addition to the garden for texture and structure.Big-leaved Aster spreads via rhizomatous growth, forming dense colonies when grown in ideal conditions. It thrives in part shade but is versatile enough to tolerate full shade or even part sun. It is also highly adaptable to a variety of soil types and moisture levels.
