    Purple Prairie Clover (Dalea purpurea)
    Legume Family

Purple Prairie Clover is a resilient perennial in the pea family and an excellent choice for sunny, dry gardens. Like other members of the pea family, it fixes nitrogen, contributing to soil health and the surrounding plant community. Bright purple flowers are densely packed into thimble-like flower spikes. The flowers attract a wide diversity of bees, and is a host plant in its native range. Fine blue-green foliage adds texture without taking up much space. Purple Prairie Clover is naturally found in prairies, meadows, and other open habitats. It is adaptable to a range of soil types but requires good drainage, and established plants are highly drought tolerant. In cultivation, it works well in pollinator gardens, naturalized plantings, and prairie-style gardens.
