    Chickasaw Plum  (Prunus angustifolia)
    Rose Family

Chickasaw Plum is a deciduous shrub or small tree native to the eastern United States. It typically grows 6 to 20 feet tall and spreads by root suckers, often forming loose thickets that provide cover for birds and small mammals. These thickets also make it well-suited for use as a screen or informal hedgerow in the landscape. In early spring, before the foliage emerges, Chickasaw Plum produces clusters of fragrant white flowers that attract early-emerging pollinators such as native bees. By early summer, the plant produces small, tart fruits that ripen to red or yellow. The fruits are sweet and palatable only when very ripe and soft, but they are readily eaten by birds and other wildlife. Chickasaw Plum prefers full sun and average, well-drained soils, yet it is highly adaptable to a variety of soil conditions. Two are recommended for best fruit production.
