    Grass-leaved Golden-aster (Pityopsis graminifolia)
    Aster Family

Grass-leaved Golden-aster is a low-growing, evergreen, perennial typically found in dry, sandy, or rocky soils. The plant forms a dense basal clump of narrow, grass-like, silvery-green leaves that give it a shimmering appearance, especially in sunlight. From late summer into fall, bright yellow flowers rise on wiry stems above the foliage, attracting a variety of pollinators, including specialized bees, butterflies, and wasps. It spreads by rhizomes, forming ground-covering colonies that can help stabilize soil in poor or disturbed sites. This species will not tolerate overly moist or rich soils. Pairs well with Little Bluestem, Dwarf Blazing-star, Narrowleaf Mountain-mint, Purple Coneflower, Aromatic Aster, Spotted Beebalm, and Purple Poppy Mallow.
