    Crimson-eyed Rose-Mallow (Hibiscus moscheutos)
    Mallow Family

This native Hibiscus is a robust, shrub-sized perennial that is best sited in moist to wet soils in full sun. It will tolerate average soil and less sun, but may produce fewer blooms. Large, 4-6” white flowers with deep crimson centers attract many types of pollinators, including hummingbirds! Multiple moth and butterfly species can use this plant as a host plant, but you may also see damage from Japanese beetles.Plants die back completely each winter and reemerge late in spring. Stems can be cut back after frost, but leaving some standing at varying heights provides valuable habitat for stem-nesting insects.
